AI part 2, In-car Personal Assistant

In the second part of his blog on Artificial Intelligence, our Divisional Manager Chris Brown takes a look at how this technology is being used to improve driver safety.

Mitsubishi Electric's AI Personal Assistant will be able to control vehicle functions such as climate control, wipers and headlights through voice recognition technology.

The systems can connect with in home devices, to create a personal understanding of the vehicle’s owners and occupants, and their preferences. It can also connect with broader infrastructure to enable the driver to check traffic conditions or get a bird’s eye view of surrounding scenery.

Tests have shown that the cars operate well in all conditions. Mitsubishi Electric are currently using the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System and have plans to build a worldwide wireless network for centimetre-level positioning compatible with CLAS.

Development of the new car and his technologies has drawn on three specific fields of research: electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity. Maisart is an example of leveraging original AI technology and edge computing to make products smarter and life more secure, intuitive and convenient. Mitsubishi Electric calls its autonomous driving technologies Diamond Safety and remain focused on the concept of ‘Thinking of people at any time.’

By making it easier and safer to control the vehicle, the motoring experience is enhanced – but always with a focus on safety and performance.
